Past and Present Projects

1. We have adopted a road in Athens and do road clean-up four times per year.

2. We volunteer our time for the fund raiser each year at WOUB-FM radio. We take phone calls when folks call in pledges.

3. We give away $400 worth of children's books each year to the Alexander "K" classes, Family Night.

4. We always volunteer in the Fall for the United Appeal Volunteer Day or Week, and we also donate $250 each year to United Appeal.

5. Habitat for Humanity - We have volunteered our labor when building houses with Habitat for Humanity. We also donate $500 per year for this worthy event.

6. We have adopted a community in Zimbabwe - We help send funds to AIDS orphans through the Zienzele Foundation. This is our international involvement through Rotary. The funds we send help students with enrolling in school and buying their supplies and uniforms.

7. We have a relationship with Kroger's. We have Kroger Gift Cards and this is one of our fund raising events. These funds help us when we make donations to various worthy events in Athens County. We have helped fund the Athens Community Center Fountain. We have helped fund play ground equipment at The Plains Elementary School, we have given money to the Federal Hocking H.S. Band, we have given funds to youth who attend Leadership Training, and we have helped fund a young home - schooled student who is raising Companion Dogs.

8. We are planning on having a yearly scholarship for one high school student in Athens County. $250 - 500 each year.

9. This year, 2008-2009 we are planning to hold an essay writing contest centering around water and literacy. We will give three monetary rewards to the top three essays. We will have at least one of the students speak to our Rotary Club on their essay.

10. We have weekly guest speakers on all kinds of topics.

11. We have just completed or third successful Quilt Barn Bike Ride Tour. We had over 50 riders from 5 different states represented. It has been one of our best fund raisers. We got lots of local press and are grateful to all our sponsors that without we would not be successful. We plan on continuing to promote this event and grow it into a fun day for family's and visitors to our community to enjoy the hills and valleys.
